How to Import a 2003 PST file into Outlook 2000 / XP /97

…How To…
I came across a problem recently where when moving mailboxes from one server to another. I got into a situation where I needed to import a few mailboxes from Outlook 2003 back to Outlook 2000. Here is the simple way I acheived this.
The formatting of 2003 pst files and 2000 are different and you cannot simply save the 2003 pst file in an older format. However there is a very simple way to acheive this.
1.) Within Outlook 2003 select File, New, Outlook Data File.
2.) Select the option Outlook 97-2002 Personal Folders File (.pst) as below.

3.) Select File, Open Data File and you can then open the existing 2003 pst file. You can now copy the folders within the 2003 file to the newly created 2000 pst.
4.) When all folders/files have been copied to the newly created pst you then open up the older version of Outlook and import the pst in.
Bit long winded but it does the trick.
